Frontliner & NLCK share their exclusive insights of their collab: "We Dance"!

Share

Frontliner and NLCK, both well-established names in the hardstyle scene, have teamed up to bring listeners a fresh track that combines the best of both their signature sounds. The collaboration features deep, reverse-bass kicks seamlessly blended with captivating melodies, giving fans a unique listening experience.

The idea for the collaboration came from mutual respect and admiration. Frontliner, having followed NLCK’s work for some time, was particularly intrigued by the orchestral elements NLCK infused into his music. "I’ve been checking out his work, and I was very intrigued by the strong orchestral elements he’s using. It inspired me to reach out to him for a collaboration," Frontliner explained. NLCK, in turn, had been playing Frontliner’s tracks in his sets for years, so when the opportunity arose, he immediately jumped on board. "I didn’t think twice when Frontliner reached out for a collaboration," NLCK said.

Blending their musical styles came naturally. Frontliner pointed out how NLCK’s orchestral elements, combined with his ear for catchy melodies, made it easy for them to work together. "We combined our sounds and composing styles, and that’s how this track was born! Working together went like a breeze!" he shared. NLCK echoed this sentiment, saying, "I started with an orchestral melody idea, and he added his style and heavy drops. It blended together from the start and wasn’t hard at all to balance our styles."

"I think the whole process of evolving and getting better in the studio is fun. I keep learning new things, and that makes this hobby very colorful!"

Despite their different branding, the collaboration was smooth and faced no real challenges. Frontliner noted that they both had a clear idea of the direction the track should take from the beginning, which made the process quick and easy. "We didn’t have any problems. Our music complements each other so well," NLCK added.

When asked if there were any lessons they wish they’d learned earlier in their careers, Frontliner couldn’t pinpoint anything specific, saying he enjoyed the ongoing process of development. "I think the whole process of evolving and getting better in the studio is fun. I keep learning new things, and that makes this hobby very colorful!" he said.

For NLCK, transitioning to producing hardstyle full-time as NLCK after his work under the alias Naeleck came with some realizations. "Hardstyle is like a small family where everyone knows each other even more than on EDM stages," he reflected, after years of playing hardstyle for a non-hardstyle audience.

In terms of creative influences, the orchestral parts played a huge role in shaping the track. "NLCK’s organ and eerie piano play set the mood. We used the same melody from the organ in the main melody, which turned out great," Frontliner explained.

As for what fans can expect from the track, Frontliner emphasized the detailed work that went into it. "You might hear something new every time you play it. It’s not a standard track—it starts mysteriously and orchestral, but once the vocal kicks in, it becomes groovy, building up until it closes with a bang!"
